Council of Europe in Strasbourg
8 junio, 2018 - 9 junio, 2018
I’ve been invited from the Directorate of Democratic Governance and Anti-Discrimination in my capacity of as a member of the European Lesbian* Conference (EL*C) and as an expert to attend the exchange of views during the Inter-secretariat Task Force meeting, as well as the Strasbourg Pride, taking place in Strasbourg, 8-9.06.18.
In the framework of the Month of Visibilities of the City of Strasbourg (17 May – 17 June), the SOGI Unit (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) is organising a discussion between members of the European Lesbian* Conference (ELC), ILGA Europe and the CoE Secretariat on the particular forms of discrimination and violence that Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans women are faced with. The representatives of EL*C are invited to present the outcome of the first Conference and discuss the next steps of the movement. At a time where fake news on so-called “gender ideology” are fueling anti-lgbt hatred and sexist attitudes, it is urgent to understand the phenomenon of invisibility of LBT women, which in turn results in the lack of understanding of their particular needs and an inadequate protection of their rights.
Following the Task Force meeting, bilateral discussions will be held with sectors of particular relevance, such as Gender Equality Unit, the Secretariat of GREVIO and the PACE committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination.
Our intervention shall be the following (10h – 11h):
Discussion with representatives of European Lesbian* Conference and ILGA Europe on the specific needs and challenges of LBT women in Europe
- Presentation by EL*C of the outcome of the first Conference
- Q&A and exchange of views with the Secretariat
